Just wanted to know what is that?. hwz it different frm the conventional one. Maybe its one of those aerobridges like in AMS which has two 'arms' for one flight. mostly used for wide bodies when boarding is necessary for more passnegers at a faster rate _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Double arm as in a fork midway to the aircraft with one section leadin to the F doors and the other to J/Y door.
BTW why only 8 aerobridges at BIAL. Isnt that short sighted?

I don't know why everything is not with aerobridges, but I guess that not having aerobridges allows for smaller terminal buildings (hence less expensive) as "gates" are not spaced out keeping a 737/747 wingspan in size. If you see the DEL or BOM domestic apron, they accommodate multiple rows of a/c - all of which are accessed via buses and a single large "waiting area" to accommodate all the flights parked on the apron.
Contrast this with any airport in the US/Europe, where you might walk past 5 empty gate areas (each spaced to hold a 747) before you reach the right gate. All those 5 gate areas need air-conditioning, lighting, cleaning etc, even though they are not used all the time.
The flip side is the passenger discomfort (esp for handicapped pax) of boarding/deboarding via bus+stairs.
I'm guessing the aerobridges are more relevant for intl flights, where there needs to be an "iron-clad" route to/from the secure immigration area and the aircraft. |

Its True Aerobridges are more Pax Friendlier,But Current Indian Airport Terminal Buildings were not build to accomodate these at the Time they were built.Spacing of Aircraft Bays distances away from the Terminal only added to the Problem.Unless A new Terminal is built with ReAligned Parking bays. The pax would need to use the Bus & Airstair.

IMO to facilitate the A380's in india all airports in the near future have to be equipped with the double arm aerobridges like AMS. |

In AMS all the double arm aerobridges are on the same level but LAX airport said the aerobridges for A380 will be double decked one for each deck. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Just double arm aerobridge wont solve the issue i guess we need aerobridges with 2 levels.. Btw one funny thing which i hav noticed is that the advertising space at the aerobridges have always been taken up by the banks be it citi or hsbc _________________ Expeditors- You'd be surprised how far we will go for you www.expeditors.com |
