Sector:BOM-RPR-BBI
Airline:Indian Airlines
Flight no:IC 169
Class:Executive 'J' Class
Seat:4C (assigned)
E.T.D: 10.45 AM
Actual Time of Departure:11.00AM
Date:25/01/2007
EQP: Airbus A320 (VT-EVS)
Reached BOM airport at about and found moderate crowd at Terminal 1A. There were simultaneous departures of 4 IC flights which included 3x A320 and 1x A319.
IC's counters at BOM
My Boarding card
IC A320
IC A319 VT-SCA...my second shot of this aircraft
IC's aircrafts at BOM
Another Shot of some more IC aircrafts.
IC A320 VT-EYB....my second shot of this bird from a different location this time!
Our bird....VT-EVS
Just before entering the aircraft
Pre-boarding services included serving chocolates, juices (coconut water and sweet lime juice) and cold towels. Surprisingly the aircraft was spick and span clean, crew was too friendly and nice, aircraft on-time.....guess what the reason was ???
Civil Aviation Minister Shri. Praful Patel and CMD of Indian Mr. Trivedi were supposed to be flying from RPR to BOM via BBI.
No wonder!!!!!!!
IC A320...view from my seat.
9W 737
FedEx MD-11
As per timings flight operated just 15 mins delay due to rush at BOM. I can also recollect spotting:
EK 2 aircrafts (i think 777 and 330...can't remember)
SQ 777
AI 310/747/777
IX 737 (Konark Temple...what a coincedence i was travelling to Orissa)
Fed Ex MD-11
9W A343
and regular domestic DN, IC, S2, 9W and also IndiGo aircraft(s)
Visibility was damn bad at BOM. We were airborne soon and initially were assigned 12,000 feet then 29,000 feet. Then we were asked to descend to 25,000 feet. But finally we were assigned 33,000 feet after our captain grumbled...lolz
In-flight
Immediately after establishing FL 330 i saw a Turboprop crossing us in the opposite direction at a distacnce which i presume must be the minimum clearance for two aircrafts.
The soon meals were served. non-veg option included:
Chicken Pattice and Chicken Tikka (???- Ever had them for your breakfast?)
Mini-veg burger
Sandwich
Fruit Salad
Tea/Coffee
Non-Veg Option
Veg option included Pav Bhaji instead of chicken pattice. I chose the non-veg option. it must have been the worst breakfast i've ever had. Not that the chicken pattice and tikka didn't taste good but who'd ever like having them in the breakfast?
Veg Option
I also took a glass of sweet lime juice after my 'breakfast'. After sometime hot towels were served.
However landing at RPR was really horrible. Very bumpy and rough!
LOAD FACTORS ON BOM-RPR:
J CLASS: 30%
Y CLASS: 70%
RPR-BBI
Soon after landing at RPR i spotted a CD B737-200 (VT-EGM) and then a 9W 737-700 (VT-JNQ) had to wait nearly 25 mins till it was assigned the bay where CD 732 was parked.
CD 737-200...VT-EGM
VT-JNQ...waiting for CD 732 to leave and vacate a bay at RPR
VT-JNQ...finally assigned a bay
PP and Trivedi were supposed to come but then source told me that last minute cancellation had taken place due extension in their stay at RPR.
The aircraft was again cleaned at RPR by some S.B.S. Agency. Although they didn't come but the flight was prepared for the VIPs. Then the actual fun of sitting in a VIP flight began!
ETD from RPR: 12.55PM
Actual Time of Departure: 01.00PM
The aircraft again left RPR this time headed BBI. Soon after seat belt signs were switched off.... services resumed.
Now normally in the sector RPR-BBI either a sandwich or a samosa or something like that is handed over to the passengers but this time thanks to the VIPs full fledged snacks were served in their regular IC cutlery.
It consisted of 2 sandwiches, 'poha' and 'halwa' and a sweet (dunno what they call it....damn!)
Inflight meal for RPR-BBI sector
All i gotta say is WOW!!!
Inflight shot
After sometime the aircraft landed at BBI and we collected the baggage and proceeded to the exit where my uncle was waiting.
OVERALL RATING:
*Food:
BOM-RPR-> 7.5/10
RPR-BBI-> 9/10
*EQP: 9/10...was quite good
*Performence by airline: 8.5/10
*Crew: 8.5/10
PS:Im not being partial towards the airline but it was the jadoo of the VIPs although they didn't come. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Sector:BBI-BOM
Airline:Indian Airlines
Flight no:IC 169
Class:Executive 'J' Class
Seat:2C (assigned)
E.T.D: 02.30 AM
Actual Time of Departure: 03.00PM (Delay due to late arrival of aircraft)
Date:29/01/2007
EQP: Airbus A320 (VT-EPR)
Incoming aircraft from BOM was delayed. So flight was delayed from BBI.Baggage scan at BBI was totally shit! Just one X-ray machine working and 2 departures...imagine the crowd. Managed to click something here.
Horrible!!! Looks quite fair here although
While standing at the J class counter att BBI noticed a really nice ad by IC. Wish they were more specialsed in promoting it in a better manner. It reads:
Thats IC
PS: Mods please let this remain big sized.
Clicked something at the airport- IT and IC A320s. IT A320 (VT-KFG) was on its BBI-HYD-DEL flight. However IT loses this sector in terms of load factros. Reason being IC operates direct DEL-BBI and DEL passengers prefer a direct connection at almost same time and same fares. But IT does well in the BBI-HYD sector. IC was (forced) to withdraw the sector after IT started (notice thw word in brackets!!)
Our aircraft....just arrived after a delay
IT A320 (VT-KFG)
As I proceed to my aircraft...I click her...too bad light conditions
IAE V2500 Engine....love their sound when in full thrust
Just before boarding
IT A320...just departing off to DEL via HYD
Then we proceeded to the security check which happens to be quite strict here. Not quite a surprise as in have experienced heavy security in BBI most of the times. Soon we boarded our aircraft and the services began...chocolates, juices (orange and coconut water) and cold towels.
After leaving those thick clouds behind
We took off around 03.15PM and soon after take off we had some bad weather hence seatbelt signs remained. About 20 mins after take off the signs went off and lunch services began.

Soup and breadsticks
Lunch...nice
Lunch was good. Veg option included rice, aloo dum and mixed veg and another option...i dunno what was that. I took the non-veg option. Initially we were served hot tomato soup with breadsticks. Then came the maincourse which had chicken in spicy gravy and aloo dum with rice. Rotis/parathas/breads were served later. I took a roti. Soon after the meals were over I did some time passing in the Biz. cabin which was almost empty. Did some in-flight clicking also.
Clicked from my seat
IC Executive Class Cabin Overview
Thats me in my seat
Another shot of the clouds...slowly getting thicker
Soon seatbelt signs were switched on as there were a lot of clouds so shaky aircraft. Visibility at BOM was damn bad again. We were supposed to land by 05.15PM but there was some headwind and airport delays delayed our landing to 05.45PM. Approach was quite bad as it was quite cloudy over BOM. We were assigned no 8 position during landing.
Damn...Can't see a thing!
Soon after the aircraft landed on rwy 09-27 we taxied to termonal 1A and crowd was not much. We were luckily assigned an aerobridge. I also managed to click a few pics here.
Aerobridge...just before docking
IC's aircrafts only at 1A
This was our bird.
Onr reaching the arrival bldg i found some significant since the last time i visitied BOM airport (27/11/06). The toilets were new and clean. And some plants planted at the baggage claim belts.
Some plants planted at the baggage claim belt
Thats all for this trip!!!
Please feel free to post your comments/suggestions/queries.

Thanks for your remarks Mayank.
About IT's flights...yes IT does get a very poor load factor to DEL on the flight. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

great TR and pictures here - was a pleasure to read. How would you rate the J class seats of IC - are they comfy or very comfy? Have you had a chance to compare them with 9W or IT's J class?
And good to see another picture with you settled into your seat - looking really comfortable in an empty J class! |

Great TR. The best part was the photo of the conveyor belt at BOM with green plants in the middle. Great Idea! Never seen before anywhere else!

Good TR avijeet!
I am shocked to see the level of meal-service in J-Class. What happened to the china? and steel cutlery? And their famous soup+garlic breads?
Either they have gone back to the old days when J-class meant nothing more than a bigger seat and same meals as economy or they are offering 2 levels of service: one for metro routes and other for t-3 routes like BBI! Either ways it is not acceptable! When I pay J fare i expect consistent service irrespective of the sector!
We used to abuse 9W for doing this: there is a glaring difference in service levels depending on sector: with the J-meal being the exact same as the Y-meal except that it came on china! On Metro routes ofcourse it was top-notch! But atleast 9W has retained the crockery!
Shame on IC! I am sending this TR to a mgr in IC and demanding some answers! _________________ http://www.cougar-rides.com

As a courtesy, I hope you have taken Avijeet's permission before sending the TR to a Manager in IC. We need to be conscious of user sensitivities (esp. in light of Boeing7xx's recent post that he almost lost his job due to someone reporting back his post to his organization). |

I think the flight you took had its STD after 1000hrs so the meal served onboard was definately not breakfast. Must've been Hi-Tea.

Nice pics and Gr88 TR avijeet. Just a bit word of advice. Tarmac photography is illegal in India so Plzz plzzz plzzz be carefull abt it.
Secondly even though IC scores well when it comes to the tasty Indian food it fails when it comes to presentation. I remember my last IC flight where instead of juice being given in glasses we were handed over ditto tetra packs like they do in the rajdhani bt without the tray...
Mate since u fly J class frm next time can we have the pics of their louge at BOM plus the details of the food and stuff they keep over there _________________ Expeditors- You'd be surprised how far we will go for you www.expeditors.com |

Tarmac photography is not illegal, u can take pics as long as it is not at defence aerodromes.
From the circular on aviation photography:
In exercise of the powers conferred by rule 13 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, the Director General of Civil Aviation hereby permits bonafide passengers traveling in an aircraft engaged in scheduled air transport services to take photographs from inside such an aircraft while in flight and
while landing, take off and on ground at civil aerodromes.
This permission is, however, not applicable when such aircraft is landing, taking off or on ground at a defense aerodrome. _________________ My Flickr photos

I can't find the part prohibiting tarmac photography. I had quoted earlier from the copy of the government order, I had with me.
Doesn't the "on ground at civil aerodromes" include tarmacs. _________________ My Flickr photos

I thought it would be a cellphone camera looking at the locations where the pics were taken.Obviously you would not display a camera there

Mel, the security was hardly even bothered to tell a Chinese looking passenger (obviously a foreigner) not to click... he was doing it openly...he clicked the IT A320 about 3-4 shots. Once his wife posing, once his son one empty shot and asked some passenger to click all of his family. All this i saw while awaiting the security gates for my flight to be opened
About the picture quality yes..when u resize them to a considerably smaller size they look better _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Extra interest in photography.
Reminds me of a joke I read in Readers Digest years ago.
