Here is my delayed trip report on Denpasar (Bali), as I was quite busy with work could not post it earlier.
Date of Departure & Time: May 31st 2008
Flight No – SQ 946 ETD : 16:40
Aircraft – Boeing 777-200
Flying time : 2:40 Minutes
Since it was an evening flight I arrived at Changi airport at about 15:00 hours & had my seats reserved online. Departure to Denpasar is via terminal 2. Prior to the opening of terminal 3 all SQ flights used to take off from terminal 2 but since the opening of the terminal 3 only flights that go to North America, Europe, Beijing and Hong Kong are routed via terminal 3, Asia Pacific and ROW have to use the old terminal 2.
Since Changi has often been described enough on most of the forums I only took photos of the key interesting things. As the F1 formula night circuit is taking place in September in Singapore the promotions by various companies to cash on it has already started.

As was seated behind boarded the aircraft first hence the empty seats but the flight was totally full to Bali.

The typical SQ service started, and hot towel was given to all the passengers.

SQ is one of the few airlines besides Air India which is able to do justice to the food specially when cooked Indian style although that is not their forte. As usual SQ delighted me with the Indian Vegetarian option that I had ordered.

Since I had another couple traveling with us they opted for the Hindu meal and they got chicken as the option which they told me was excellent. The Gulab Jamun (Indian Sweet) and the Ras Malai (Indian Sweet) were excellent.

Since it was quite dark outside by now I did not take any photos as my camera does not take good night shots. After about 2 hours and 20 minutes we arrived into Bali and taxied to our gate quickly.
Visa on arrival is granted to all Indian nationals in Bali so that is really a blessing and one does not need to go through the hassle of applying for Visa’s before hand. For a 7 day stay they charge USD 10 dollars.

The luggage belt is quite small in Bali and was overflowing with a lot of luggage, hence there was quite a bit of rush near the belt area anyways managed to grab all our luggage with a little push and shove Bombay style.

Date of Departure & Time: June 3rd 2008
Flight No – SQ116 ETD : 20;05
Aircraft – Boeing 777-200
Flying time : 2:40 Minutes
After a relaxing and wonderful holiday in Bali it was time to go back home. Just before we entered the foyer of the airport there was a huge Starbucks outlet but the problem is once you enter the terminal you cant get out hence all Starbucks coffer lovers make sure to grab your cup before you get in.

One needs to pay a departure tax of IDR 150,000 on departure from any Indonesian Airports. I can’t understand why some countries don’t include it within the ticket price it’s a real hassle to remember to keep additional cash at the airport.

As we were 4 of us and only one of us was a star alliance gold member we tried our luck entering the lounge, unfortunately the lounge manager said that he can allow only one person free the other one will have to pay USD 25. We felt paying USD 25 was not worth it hence went back to one of the restaurants below.

I also found a small MacDonald take away counter only, which serves basic MacDonald stuff. Although a sign outside does state that one needs to wait 15 minutes before they can get the food, I assume the kitchen must be located at one corner of the airport hence the delay.

By this time boarding for the flight was announced and displayed on the screen, and as always I prefer to go to the rest room before boarding.
As I entered the rest room I found one of the strangest thing I have ever seen - Fish Tanks with real fish swimming about. I have no idea who would have thought of such an interior design idea but it was a bit awkward to hold your tool in the hand and look into the eyes of the fish while doing your job.

Since it was quite dark outside I did not bother to take any pictures of the aircraft as I could not see it clearly anyways.
Boarding was orderly as usual and since one of us had the gold card we boarded first when the boarding was announced. We pushed back once the boarding was complete and were air bone quickly as there was not much traffic.
Meal service started immediately in fact my vegetarian meal landed on my tray within 10 minutes of the seat belts being switched off, which was as usual excellent.

Rest of the journey was smooth and we landed at Singapore on time and docked on the new terminal 3 just besides an A380 that was heading out to Sydney.
Overall a good experience with SQ as always, although before the trip I was apprehensive about their service levels as my previous experience with SQ on short routes was never good. I typically found that on short routes the crew forget requests & they seem to be in some kind of immense pressure right from the time when they start serving food till they clear the trays, there by giving a robotic service and forgetting that service begins with smile.
All feedbacks welcome.

Wow - I always wanted to go to Bali for a holiday, but not had a chance as yet. SQ does a good job as usual, and that toilet in DPS is amazing! _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Good report Sri,
btw thats a AI 777 most probably, considering the tail size...
I was almost gonna go to Bali this year but my mom's passport had a simple issue (new one) which would have resulted a delay so we went to Goa instead. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld
