Nice TR Karan.
9W needs to improve it's J class service standards. That was no way to serve bread. And if it is going to be a choice between soup and the salad, why mention it as two different courses?
Cheers,

Nice report Karan.
- The outbound (in Y) seems like it was generally uneventful, about what you'd expect for a typical BOM-DEL flight
- I still question Jet's idea of serving a full dinner on a late night departure, followed by nothing before arrival; the opposite makes so much more sense
- Jet's old J seat is still probably the best I have ever flown.
- That seems like a rather nice and generous selection of meal options
- But sad to see them serve Bollinger now, and, to make it worse, it's the Dirty Bolly
- The JetChildren and their general cluelessness about everything and their loud chattering isn't surprising. I've encountered it plenty in the past (now a distant memory, thank God). It's not totally their fault, they still think they're in the playground
Overall, it's a reconfirmation of what we've known : a great (but decaying) hard product, and, other than occasional flashes of quality, a soft product that would make Al Yemda ashamed.

Ha! Their service standards in all classes are crap, so that's a whole other issue. But I believe they've always served the garlic bread that way (the foil is presumably to keep it warm). Seems to me like a perfectly fine way to serve.
Just that this time around, the foil was roughly crumpled rather than neatly folded. _________________ four years free of jetya punti! |

Thanks for the comments Ameya, Sukrit and Jason
@Sukrit,
Agree it should be both, but then again their meal service is quite extensive, so one does not really miss it.
@Jason
regarding the meal service, at the time the flight left at 2330 so it made sense to have dinner service say by 1230 IST, especially since we landed at 7:15 Singapore Time, with a breakfast service typically being served 1 hour before descent , would mean indian originating people are having breakfast at around 3:45 am IST.........
In the above case what would still be your preference, for a flight like lhr bru, what you said makes sense
They truly have downgraded the booze variety, they used to serve Dom at some point

Well written TR Karan. It is good you finally managed to get time to note it down as it has been quite a while since this trip.
Sadly 9W no longer flies the wide bodies on the Bombay-Singapore legs it is now served twice daily by single aisle 737-800 which I find very Claustrophobic for a long flight.
Hope to see you again soon in Singapore.

Hey Karan, great TR!
Nice to see a decent set of flights by 9W, there really isn't much that you can expect these days from them, sadly.
The crew on return certainly seem annoying, but I'm sure that's not a Jet only issue - a certain member of a certain alliance's crew did not bother clearing away the appaling snack box - instead, they were nicely eating the J class meal
Looking forward to more from you!
Regards

Nice report. The service standards seem to have dropped but it appears that its a average to solid "soft" service. With regards to the "hard" product. The herringbone appears to be solid performer. Not sure about the new staggered layout.
The comment about the lack of charger/converter for an "Indian" plug on an Indian airline sums up everything that is wrong with Jet Airways. To ignore the home market of 1.2 billion people in the hope of chasing "phoren" customers. |

Yeah, preferences are certainly one thing. And I'm not sure what the difference in departure times is, but that could certainly make a difference. Speaking of personal preference, I guess mine's not changed from when I made this comment two years ago:
jasepl wrote: | Maybe it's just me, but I find it odd that they do a full meal service (well, Jet's version of a full mean anyway) late in the night, but nothing upon arrival.
I haven't flown Jet to Singapore, but at least to Hong Kong, that's whey they were doing: a basic beverage run upon departure and breakfast before arrival.
Whilst there's no need for two meals on a short-ish flight, I do think breakfast instead of a late dinner is a better bet in such a situation.
And speaking of food, whilst the number, quantity and quality of meals has gone down steadily (along with nearly everything else), and there may be bizarre combinations on the tray, based on both my own and friends' experiences, the dessert has almost always been spectacular. Odd-looking or deceptive sometimes, but very tasty nonetheless. |

@Sri_Bom
Thanks so much for the comments and thank you for the dinner, it was great catching up with you
I am disappointed that you came down and dint tell me
But wrt 9W 737s were the service levels the same
@D3vski
Thanks for reading, yeah that socket is a jet classic
@Jishnu
Thanks for the comments, yes Sadly all the positive experiences were the norm at one point with 9W, but now they have become a rarity that it feels the need to be highlighted during a report
@Jason
Yeah all down to preferences , but even on my recent SQ flight to SIN, they followed the exact same procedure,
i.e. proper dinner service on departure and nothing before landing
when that socket thing happened , all I could think of was Jason saying "I told you so..." |

Haha... "I've been telling you so" is more apt
None of these JetDelights are new; I just have a knack for noticing trivial things. But when you add up the sheer number of them, you end up with what we have today.
And every passing day that throws up yet another JetDelight, reminds us that "La commedia e finita" ! _________________ four years free of jetya punti! |

Karan - I did not come down to Bombay, but I flew in economy to Chennai on Jet Airways on a 737-800 in April. The overall impression was not of a world class airline, but the crew were great on that leg. Will try to write a report shortly on this.
I intend to come down in December so will surely let you know.

Great TR.
The food in Y looked good, butter chicken/chicken curry is always good in the air
Loud crew is one of the few things that gets to me in the cabin, if you're sitting in the first row you can expect a little chit chat but if they're talking in normal volume arrghhh!
Thats a good choice in J (rolled up bread in foil maybe not)
Thanks for the TR. _________________ eP007 |

What a delightful trip report!
On the BOM-SIN leg: the dinner looks quite nice, though a bit sinful (but then, butter chicken is supposed to be sinful!) The Changi pictures and descriptions were nice. On the return trip, wow, you got lucky with a school friend int he front cabin! A B707 variant on the tarmac: what a pity that the light outside was so bad. Your J class food pictures ot my hungrey at an hour I should really be thinking about food. The power-port: I carry an adapter with me usually. Does any Indian carrier have power-ports for Indian-type plugs? I forget the AI Dream)liner ones, but the rest have the US type power-ports, from what I remember.
Since you have tingled our senses with this TR, we also look forward to the other segments and the equipment, you have teased us with, especially the ride on the B772A.
Thanks for sharing this with us!
Cheers, Sumantra. |
