This change in pre-booked seat during check-in is not new. In fact, its happened twice with me.

First, it was on AI820 BDQ-DEL where my pre-booked seat 2A mysteriously changed to 14F in OLCI page. When I tried to change it back to 2A, it turned out that the front 6 rows were fully blocked in the seat map. Finally, had to settle for 8A.

In the second instance, this time on AI853, my prebooked seat 2A was again changed to 23F when I tried to OLCI. Again, when I tried to change the seat back to 2A, it showed the front rows were fully blocked with the exception of a few middle seats. Again, the furthest available window seat at that time was 14A.

Hey khabri_lal Wink

Nice TR!

Sad about the seats though, I had no problems with OLCI, and I got the exact same seats at check-in

I flew VT-PPX, but I have to say that was more well-maintained than VT-PPH. AI seriously needs to rethink it's maintenance issues. It's frankly terrible.

Really looking forward to the transfer at DEL T3!

Cheers!

P.S:- Slight error while mentioning AI's DEL hub, they fly to JFK not EWR!

Sir, I got to read a TR on a flight leg I have been often on!
- I've flown wit Capt K. S. Gujral once, on the AI 658 CJB-BOM-DEL sector in 2013
- The seat number change: has happened to me as well, but not that often, given that I fly AI all too often. I wonder why. Since you know flight ops better than most of us here, it sounds perfectly reasonable for an unreasonable check-in agetn to over-ride the system default. No, I do not think the A321s would have been re-configured at the time of your journey. I will need to check with my sources on the re-config issue.
- AI 850 has always been a dinner flight, right from the IC days, and the catering out of Pune has been very nice. It is only recently that I patronised the morning flights as well, and look forward to trying out the late evening flights as well. You know the reason. The food, of course Smile And another opportunity to try out the all-Y double bogeys.
Thank you for yet another nice TR!
Cheers, Sumantra.

You will be disappointed to know that AI853/854 is now A321. I am happy for the Planning & Revenue Management done by AI with AI849/850 downgraded to A319 and this was primarily due to the later flight having more demand on DEL-PNQ sector in the front cabin due to the timings and all other flights being LCC operated

Yes Sir, a very decent capacity-demand and smart planning move.
Cheers, Sumantra.
