I will be adding some photos to this soon but till then,

The trip involved 4 flights outbound, 3 flights inbound across 5 carriers – 6E / LH / FV / LX / AI and 6 unique airports – PNQ /DEL/MUC/DME/LED/ZRH
Some things which might have got repeated from the TR but writing it here again in the summary

-India has indeed taken a lot of things from the soviet union
-SPB continues to have the soviet touch as yet, but not the same with Moscow, which is now moving out of the era, sadly
-Saw a lot of Japanese, who travel with adult diapers. I wonder if that was to avoid paying up at the paid toilets in Russia
-To avoid paying up at toilets, people go into cafes just to visit the washroom. So a lot of washrooms have a bar code scanner at the entry of the washroom. So you can only enter if you have bought something there
-Another thing which Indians took from soviets or probably the other way round was writing on the walls, historical places, so on.
-However, since a lot of restoration work is always going on, these get cleaned up pretty soon.
-The concept of MRP does not exist in Russia. We bought water – 0.5L at 100 RUB and 2.0L at 27 RUB
-English is hardly spoken.
-The Russian metro indeed is one of the marvels and a multi purpose tunnel is amazing

The summary of flights

Thanks for that... I'm even more Jealous, because Leningrad is stunning!

And the Kingfisher 330 is still at ZRH - I saw it just a few weeks ago : http://airlinersindia.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?p=126637

India has indeed taken a lot of things from the Soviets. And from Britain. Though somehow many of them aren't "foreign" or "against Indian culture" even though they are. There's no point in trying to understand the right-wing logic (because there isn't any).

But, in general, taking or being forced to take things from anywhere is one thing. So many of them are well past their sell-by date though and have even been discarded in their country of origin, yet we continue to perpetuate a lot of the nonsense.

Lovely, Sir...lovely. Very nice and pertinent observations, as usual.
What a SUPERB medley of photographs! I will join the ranks of people who have not yet had a chance to visit St. Petersberg, for varied reasons, in my case, time, vacation leave, and of course, hard cash.
Breathtaking!
Cheers, Sumantra.

ROFL.

@Nimish - I guess it must be some settings issue on flickr. Shall check that.

Also, shall upload some more photos, of Moscow, which I have not yet uploaded.
