A friend just flew CZ from SYD to DEL, and here are his comments to me:
Quote: | hi Nimish, the China South Airline should be avoided if possible.
The food is bad, they have a limited selection of drinks ( warm beer or red or white wine that ran out quickly, coke served froma 1.5 L bottle that had lost all the fizz by the time she reached my row) the staff cannot speak english to save their life ( the man next to me had great trouble saying he wanted whiskey and that his chicken did not taste good)
No entertainment system on the seat in both legs - there is a overhead tV that plays an old movie that you can watch if you can tolerate poor audio quality on the headphone
We had a 2 hour delay due to weather conditions in CAN, we boarded the flight under bad weather and waited for 2 hours in the flight with only 2 announcements in between to tell us whats going on, this was after passendgers got restless and started walking around .
The aircraft is dirty, but the flight equipment itself seemed new - the only positive for me, there was little vibration / noise and even in turbulent weather
the guy next to me decided to have beer with ice as it was warm and the lady informed him she can give just 4 cubes as she was running out of ice
i was waiting for the guy to get up and slap her..dint happen thankfully
this guy was an aggressive aussie in the first leg.. who was yelling at them for what they were serving
I plan to take some stuff to eat on my return sector actulally

Hmm - pretty dismal, Skyteam membership and all. Sounds like Indian carriers are far superior to the Chinese carriers. I wonder if CA/ MU/ CI etc. are as bad as this? _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Nimish, when it comes to food, how can you forget the glutton on the forum?
I have written a good bit on Air China (the good bit had more bad parts, then good) in Parts 1 and 3 of my three-part Beijing trip report, last year. Yes, they contain quite a bit apart from the usual obsession with food.

Cheers, Sumantra. |

Yeah, they are bad. Their poor and abysmal English skills do not help them at all. Coupled with bad service, you have a hellish ride. My sister flew from DXB-MEL via PEK and PVG(stopover on the PEK-MEL leg)
All trouble started from the beginning when they announced an hour and a half delay departure, which left my sister worried about the transfer time in PEK. Upon arrival in PEK, she learnt that the onward flight had also been delayed by 3 hours due to some technical reason she couldn't fully understand. PEK is a horrible airport for transit, as it is big and there are not many people that can help you around. Add to that, at Shanghai, the pilot fell sick and they were all made to stay in a dingy hotel, with no information as to when would the flight depart. My sister found out about the new timings only when they saw some people rushing down the corridor screaming "HURRY, WE'RE GOING TO MISS IT".
The service was pathetic. The crew didn't honour her AVML requests, and when asked, gave a "I don't care about it, take it or leave it" look on their face. The seats were very dirty & unkempt. My sister said, it was much worse than travelling in a KSRTC bus! _________________ |
