Nice collection mate! Thanks for sharing.

I really liked those typically Indian designs on the bulkhead. They were so unique. It is unfortunate that they were replaced later on.

I was hoping to get you to add some.
BTW, would you by any chance have a pic of the old Air India crew transport vans that were used for crew pick-up/drop-off and DR (dispatch rider) duties ?

Thanks for those pics! I had the AI 747 brochure titled "The 747th Wonder of the World" but lost it during a move. Those pics bring back great memories.

Also, I don't believe that any of those pictures are of the 707s. The 707s had flat wall panels, not the kind in which the windows were recessed.

I just wish "The bygone times of the Indian Skies" on Facebook and their members would quit stealing my pics from this thread and posting it to their page !
And not to mention some douche called "Yogesh Naik" doing the same on "Hobby Flyers India" page on FB ... that clown has ripped my pics from pretty much every thread !
Jesus !!

They need to at least mention the source of the pictures and give credit! Shameful that folks are not doing that Sad

747- I'd posted the following on the Bygone time's FB page:
Quote:
The bygone times - please do not "lift" material posted by others and put your own copyright. Please refer to the OP's comment here: http://airlinersindia.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php...

To which I got the following reply.
Quote:
Hello Mr. Nimish Gupta, Please check for the availability of the pic which was posted on "The Bygone Times Of The Indian Skies" on google and in old Air India diaries which I have under my possession. The pic was scanned from them so it was not "Lifted" as you mentioned. Credits to the photographers are duly given in the page. Please take the pain to scroll down and see for yourself. Bhargav Thantry [Admin Bygone Times]

Per Bhargav - he has scanned the picture himself and has not lifted it from your picture.

Hey Nimish, thanks a bunch; appreciate it.

Long story short, that guy is a liar. One doesn't have to be a forensic detective to see that the pics are identical to what I have posted here (included creases and marks in some pics, and scans from my brochures). Of course, "the availability of the pic on google" will obviously point to pics posted here. This guy and others like "Andrew Kuriakose", "Yogesh Naik", "Atc Sankar Basu Rc" and others from "Hobby Flyers India" & "Bygone Times "are pretty much trolls on this forum and lift pics from this and other threads (AI Postcards, AI IL62M / L1011, etc) and make them their own on FB. One of those clowns "Yogesh Naik" is a Mid Day journalist (our mutual friend Nianne-Lynn says hi, punk), with absolutely no concept of plagiarism.

Anyways, thanks for the effort though. I doubt it will have any effect on the likes of these. Interestingly enough, I can't see your post of their FB page. Anyway, I'm glad folks on here can enjoy my collection as much as I enjoy sharing them; and perhaps guys like Jay & Himmat can relate to these as I can, from a time when we were (much) younger. Just for that, I should post some more. Watch this space.

747 - why don't you watermark your images - the ones you scan and put up? That should cut down on the downright plagiarism...

I saw this get uploaded onto Airliners.net, and only a few minutes later I saw the same pic, without the Airliners.net sign below and the name of the photographer, on the Airliners-India group on Facebook...long before he created his page. No credits given. When I asked him, he said that someone gave him the picture.......

The plagiarism is very sad for us enthusiasts. 747-237: I know AI's glory days have been special for you, Sanjay and Himmat because of your parents' links with the airline - they are also very special to many like me, who have admired JRD's airline from our early days, even though we did not have a relative working for the airline. In my case, it was not just seeing the 707s and the 742s in the sky: it was also the stories told by my father (he has been flying AI and IC since the 1960s, mostly on official duty). I did not have an extensive collection of memorabilia as the three of you have, but I used to treasure every timetable, every magazine, every picture postcard, and all these tid-bits. Most of these got lost over the years, and after Papa's retirement, when we had to hurridly shift to a tiny house, these seem to have finally got lost with the sands of time (though I recall seeing a 1966 postcard of an AI B707 somewhere, at my parents' place, a few years back). I find it very depressing that someone does not respect all these cherished memories, and if I may add, even dreams, which built up the fascination many of us have for aviation today.
Jishnu: thank you for pulling this out. Scholefield has some of the best collections on A.net, and this picture is a beauty. Also of personal interest to me is the Caravelle to the right of the picture!
Cheers, Sumantra.

Yeah Nimish, you're quite right, I wish I had the time and inclination to do so. That would be the smarter thing to do.

Sumantra, I think the ultimate was some guy called "Kabir" on another forum posting one of those 2 uber rare pics of V2-LEO from your Air India's Il-62 thread, and including my comment "Apparently she was leased by AI only for one day !! " verbatim, (include the exclamation marks).
I've also seen my scan of the pic of CCCP-86512 at SVO from a book that I have, with the downward pointing arrow I edited in, on a Russian website.
I guess FB posts take to another level, since the premise is that it is the poster's picture. Oh well ! Anyways, let's move on.

PM me your address, I'll mail you some old Air India postcards. Or better yet, post your address here - you never know who sends you what, then!

Oooh thank you, these pictures are collectors' items! You remember the Emperor Shah Jehan interior so well that you can immediately identify the bird! My guess is that this is another of JRD's personal touches, during a monsoon visit at Bombay, and wow...real silverware! The right-side JRD photo is very poignant. Please point out my mistakes: I somehow seem to miss the hyphen between `Air ' and `India' in this picture (could be the lighting), and the engines do not look that realistic (could be the angle).
Cheers, Sumantra.

747-237, thank you very much for the kind offer! However, I think it will be much better for history's sake, if you keep the post cards with you, and enthrall us with your lovely thread on the postcards, for eternity. I am not a good collector, and am unable to take care of some other (non-aviation-related) items I have. The one post-card that I saw at my father's place a few years back is that famous VT-DJI picture (the first one you posted, incidentally!) taken from slightly below. For me, thart represented the ultimate in aviation: the lovely engine pylon colours, the distinctive tail livery, the stylised Centaur, the forward jut-out from the tail top, the canoe-like thin fairing under the fuselage (the ventral fin), the black nose, the little Indian flag: all that symbolised the best that could be, the most beautiful plane ever designed, and in my nation's colours. It filled a little heart with pride and joy, for many years, and you have brought back so many sweet memories, right now. I must search out that picture now at my parents' place!
Thanks once again, Sumantra.

The lady in that picture resembles a yesteryears' film star (actually, a combination of Tanuja Samarth and Gul Panag, if I may Smile ), and her tip-top perfect looks embodies the JRD philosophy: the 1970s-style stylish hair-do, simple make-up without heavy embellishments on the ears for instance, a broad from-the-heart smile, a perfectly worn silk saree with a matching blouse, and a stylish but simple black thin-strapped gold-coloured watch. It is amazing to how much level of detail JRD went, to ensure that his airline would be second to none. Yes, his airline, which thankfully is on somewhat of an upward ascent from the nadir of depths it had plummeted to.
Cheers, Sumantra.

Some improvement is better than none - but it's sad to see folks post pics without crediting the source!

Hey Deb, why don't you watermark the pics in BIG BOLD letters before you post it here. If we want a copy of the pics without the watermark, we will PM you and you can mail it to us Cool

You're quite right Raj ... I ought to. And yeah, I'll be glad to email you my archives - after all, as an Air India pilot you have as much of a link to this history as I do, if not more.
