Navi Mumbai Airport To Have ‘NMI’ IATA Code
May 4, 2024
The upcoming airport at Navi Mumbai will have “NMI” as its International Air Transport Association (IATA) location code, said the airport operator on Friday.
IATA codes are an integral part of the aviation and travel industry which help identify destinations and traffic documents of a commercial airline. For instance, Mumbai airport’s IATA code is “BOM” while Delhi’s is “DEL”.
The three-letter code facilitates the smooth running of hundreds of electronic applications which have been built around these coding systems for passenger ticket booking and cargo traffic purposes.
“It is one of the important milestones for our airport and a step towards asserting its global identity,” said an NMIAL spokesperson.
Navi Mumbai International Airport is scheduled to be commissioned by March 2025.
