Good question, don't remember the answer though
I'm sure LH was the first European carrier, though I think we had some of the Asian carriers at BLR before LH came here. And AI/IC as well provided some basic intl connectivity. |

dear avbuff,
the first intl flight to land at blr was that of air india from singapore & the first foreign airline to land at blr was royal nepal airlines followed by malaysian, lufthansa, SQ, gulfair, etc.
dear nimish,
i did read the sj mercury news item a coupla days after its release.
true, it is too exaggerated to be a maxim. now that LH 454 / 455 connects SFO to all of BLR, MAA, HYD, BOM, DEL, CCU, it is no more of a BLR express.
if LH has the biz traffic to itself with the spillover to SQ, the vfr market has always been with SQ attributing to the relatively reasonable fares as compared to the ridiculous ones on LH.
on the other hand, i had this rare instance of SQ 16 & SQ 12 being delayed by almost an entire hour at SIN due to the late arrival of SQ 429. This happened sometime in Sep. 06 when i
dropped a friend headed to SFO. incoming SQ 430 had a problem & arrived late by 3 hours. with 429 having reached SIN at 9:30 hrs, SQ could have managed to transfer the delayed pax
onto SQ 2 & SQ 30 which apparently have lighter loads. but SQ 16 had a delayed departure that day & arrived SFO with a 75 min. delay.

This is quite routine I think. I've seen SQ16 being delayed for the incoming flights from BOM, and I'm sure it's also held up for the BLR flights. Such is the power of the connecting traffic on SQ16 |

Hi Megatop - do you have the dates for these initial flights by any chance, I want to update the Wikipedia page with these details.

Could not agree more, having SQ helps a lot in controlling the fares that LH would like to charge from pax ex-BLR! Even otherwise, SQ has far friendlier cancellation/change terms than LH, where LH charges 25% for cancellation, and each change is some Rs. 3000. Contrast this with Rs. 1000 for canx on SQ, and no fees for changes. Extremely customer-friendly! |

nimish,
let me try getting the dates.
its all conclusive that SQ beats LH in all aspects but for the layover in sin being a bit more than 8 hrs from SFO & the flight elapsed time 3 hrs more ex. BLR.

Yup, you said it. The 8 hour wait is the worst part. And LH flights don't have any personal TVs either, compared to the fabulous IFE of SQ. I have done SFO-SIN-BLR couple of times, and found the flight to be tiring, mainly due to the long wait at SIN. The return flight is ok, with just 2 hours layover at SIN. |

blrsea,
forget the ife, i'm not very surprised if the LH fa told 'NEIN' to my request for a drinking water refill. the lead fas on LH are either old or bulky/hefty, u cant throw a fit with them & the younger ones dont seem to care. stares & frowns are a common eyesore on LH flights.
& i know of many people once loyal to transatlantic airlines who've switched preferences to SQ & swear not to take LH anymore, being looted on the premise of a shorter flight.
& nimish,
deccan has unofficially considered its on-time performance to be 100% if within an hour of a flight's sched. departure.
with no agency ratings to monitor on-time performance, airlines can afford to quote the heaven even if they're not even delivering hell.
for ex, BLR-DEL can no more fly in a stipulated 2.5 hrs, considering the circling around the airports in blr, del & bom during peak hrs, but even now, indian has its flights showing 2.5 as elapsed time, notwithstanding the flights never stick to their skeds & nobody bothers that much. |
