It's not considered a fantasy if it actually existed. This one has of course been built and painted and even flew although obviously not in revenue service. |

Was being sarcastic about the 'fantasy' (as in IT's 340/380 dreams; and like the Phoenix A380 model), hence the
This is a good looking model nonetheless. |

Here are a few pics of an old 1:100 Travel Agency models of Air India 707-300 VT-DPM "Makalu", made my Skyland Models, circa 1960s.
Was on eBay, till the buyer pulled the listing. Would have loved to get my hands on this one ... another classic !

I just got the A300 VT-EHQ 'Cauvery'. Now Aeroclassics should release a 742 to complement it. Pics coming soon. _________________ http://openflights.org/user/akumanduri |

Another old school Travel Agency model..... this time a 1:72 Air India Lockheed Constellation VT-DGL "Rani of Jhansi", which has been restored (hence the "VT" wrongly marked as "VI" and missing props). It's on eBay, with a starting price close to US $600. Should be interesting to see if & how much she goes for.

Here you are Karan, the 1:400 Air India fleet (19 in AI colors, 2 in IC colors). Pics are not that great, and don't do justice to the models.

Matchbox Continental 787-8 (Base Model) : $2.75
2 Air India Baggage Labels: Courtesy Air India check in counter
Sticky tape, scissors, and an hour's worth of eye strain
One Air India 787-8 in special livery (retro colors) : Priceless !!!
A Saturday evening's worth of killing time, & I came up with this ! Hope you like the 'Maharaja' Tail !! The 'hybrid' colors almost remind me of the 757 leased from Golden. Maybe it's the effect of the blue CO tail, & the arch-less windows. And yes, I just had to extract those oversized Matchbox landing gear witha pair of pliers !

That's the same pic for the DW 1:400 AI 767, which I suspect it really is. Haven't seen a pic of the real 1/500 Sky500 B767 yet. |

Sammky, you are right but if the model is going to come in regular production it will be a third of the price and may be still better quality... That why I am . Having said that being an Air India livery fan (does not mean an AI fan), I am glad I bought it. |

Considering that you paid almost US$72 (+shipping) for it, it better be good !!
How about posting some pics fo the rest of us, once you get it in the mail ?
The AV400 A321 VT-PPA is now in the market...you may wanna grab that one too, from the same seller.

Just got this new Air India 747-237 desk model
Pacific Miniatures. Scale: Unknown (I suspect 1:200)
No Registration, No Aircraft Name, No "Your Palace in the Sky" titles
Looks a classic - should be early '70s made.

Here are a few pics of an old school Air India 747-200 made by MAXWELL INDIA (Calcutta) - a classic toy from the 1980s! Wonder if these are still available in India ??
(Incase you're wondering, No, I do not own this model).

You mean on the box ? It says Lufthansa ... though I agree, it looks like KU ! I like the little tag that says Air India, stuck over Lufthansa ! Gotta love those old school models.. They seem to have a charm of their own ! |

Thanks for your input. The Phoenix one also fits into my scheme of things (I like many, prefer the 1:400 version).. Alas! The ModelArt folks express their helplessness in executing personal requests.. say, the current govt laws are inhibiting toy imports from China/HKG. I am not sure about ordering them online as I prefer the real world retail experience. Guess it will have to wait till my next trip abroad. |
